Why BESS monitoring became its own discipline

The numbers argue operations, not cell quality, is where storage value is won or lost. These four run physics and machine-learning models over BMS telemetry. TWAICE, from Munich, centers on SoH and a warranty tracker that alerts before contract thresholds are crossed, and claims an average 5 percent improvement in recoverable energy across deployments. ACCURE, from Aachen, leads with safety: continuous screening for 20+ anomaly types aimed at preventing thermal runaway, plus health and performance analytics, published annually as a fleet benchmark. Elysia, Fortescue’s battery intelligence arm, acquired Zitara in January 2026 to pair its cloud analytics with embedded software that computes validated SoC, SoH, and predictive power limits on site at cell level. PowerUp, a French CEA-Liten spin-out now backed by Socomec, specializes in imbalance and early risk detection, reporting that 75 percent of BESS sites show early HVAC-related risk signals. All four need an operational telemetry feed, and none publishes pricing.

Operations platforms and market analytics: Unity and Modo

Power Factors Unity treats BESS as one asset class inside an enterprise asset performance management platform: real-time monitoring and dispatch, compliance workflows, and hybrid portfolio views, with a claimed 34+ GWh of storage under management. It is the fit when storage lives inside a larger renewables portfolio and the buyer wants one platform. Modo Energy is a different product entirely: revenue benchmarking and forecasting built from market and settlement data, not plant telemetry, and the self-described only FCA-regulated benchmark administrator for battery storage. Asset managers use Modo to know what their battery should have earned; it will not tell you a rack is drifting. Modo is also the only platform on this list with a public self-serve free tier.
